Public Restroom Reviews #4

Posted by Mr. O on Sunday, 25 November 2007 – 1:09 AM

Today’s review is a combination of two reviews, both of these are bathrooms of the West Baden Springs Hotel located at 8670 W State Road 56, West Baden/French Lick, IN.

While there are two bathrooms, I will combine them both and explain any minor details following the point-by-point section. Much like I did with Ivy Tech’s bathrooms.

Odor – 4.
Despite being a rather fancy hotel, there wasn’t any sort of aroma that they filtered in to mask any smell of bowel movements or something of the sort. The air was…kind of clean, but at the same time there wasn’t any kind of perfume. It was a pleasant smell, for a bathroom.

Cleanliness – 10
Oh my sweet Lord, these bathrooms were freakin’ immaculate. I mean, seriously. There wasn’t a SPOT OF DIRT ANYWHERE. It was like they’ve never even been used. At all. Ever.

I almost didn’t even want to sit in the stalls out of fear that I would ruin just how perfect this place was. I can’t even begin to describe it. You could practically eat off of the floor, toilet seat, sink, sink basin, anything.

Appearance – 9
Again, it’s just gorgeous. I haven’t been in a lot of hotels beyond the cheap ones, so this place was slightly overwhelming, but at the same time it was just absolutely gorgeous. The bathrooms were spacious and the colors weren’t too bright or dark.

My only real problem with them is the bathroom stalls used doors that were a bit too high off of the ground to my taste, and the doors were similar to that of bar-doors, with the slats that go at a very steep angle. You couldn’t actually see inside, but it was still slightly uncomfortable.

One of the bathrooms featured a sink that stood separate from the others, just kind of sitting there, and seemed out of place against the whole atmosphere of the bathroom.

Functionality – 6
Everything worked perfectly. The toilets were all working perfectly, save one that was clogged. But there were so many of them that it doesn’t detract that much.

The sinks also worked just fine.

Comfort of Toilet Paper – 3
You’d figure for such an expensive place, they’d have some good toilet paper, but it was basically the same crap you get, but slightly thicker and with bumps.

Number of Stalls/Urinals
One bathroom had four stalls and four urinals. The other had seven urinals and five stalls.

The sinks to these places were manual, and one of them had cloth towels while the other had paper towels. Each had them in a nice little wicker basket as opposed to a dispenser or an automatic drying machine.

There were also several sinks in each bathroom, each contained a nearby container of lotion and liquid soap that was small, but likely replaced pretty quickly.

The bathrooms were also not the kind that were simply walk-right-in and go. There is a minor turn, following the opening of the door, that you have to do. I believe on of them also has a second door that you must open. The doors have glass, but it’s fogged.

One of the bathrooms had music playing in it, and another one didn’t. Or rather, if it did, I didn’t here any. I think it’s safe to assume they do, but I would rather there be some kind of smell as opposed to whatever the hell music they were playing.

The bathrooms I went to were both on what was essentially opposite sides of the area–though the area is round, so “sides” aren’t really in play. It was easy, however, to find and access both of them.

Nothing really to say on these except that they are gorgeous beasts that are entirely too nice to be bathrooms.
